Whitefield Academy began in 1976 in Louisville, Kentucky, as a ministry of Highview Baptist Church. The new school offered families and students educational opportunities for grades K-8. At that time the school was called Highview Baptist Christian School. Under the direction of Mrs. Barbara Crawford and the school committee, Highview Baptist Christian School grew in size and influence.
By 1988 the school was under new direction and carried a new name, Highview Baptist School. The school also added in the same year a high school program. With the addition of the high school came additional opportunities for students particularly in the area of athletics, music and drama. It was during this era that many programs that have marked Highview as Highview were born: the Arts and Crafts Festival, athletic excellence, the Washington, D.C. Trip and its ministry mindset toward community families.
In 1997, Mr. Steve Whitaker came as the school's new Headmaster. With him came many new programs that characterize Whitefield Academy today. During his era of leadership the school focused on and accomplished raising the Stanford 9 test scores. The school's name was changed to Whitefield Academy and its philosophy was changed to reflect a discipleship model of education. Whitefield was cross-accredited with ACSI, SACS and CITA. Teacher salaries were significantly raised. Whitefield developed recognized 'blue ribbon' programs (Veteran's Day Celebration and the Prayer Walk).
Today, Whitefield Academy is continuing the pursuit of Academic Excellence and Spiritual Vitality that have been a hallmark of its educational program since 1976. There have been many significant changes at Whitefield. What has remained throughout its history has been its commitment to serving the Lord Jesus and its ministry to Christian families.
