Reykjavik – the wonder of Iceland

Iceland is a northern country, which is quite exotic for Russian tourists. The capital of this country is Reykjavik, a beautiful and cozy city that will remain a pleasant memory for many years.

To begin with, it is worth visiting the National Museum of Iceland. There are various exhibits reflecting the Icelandic history of different periods. Visitors can also visit the local library and get acquainted with some archival materials. The museum is famous for its charity events.

It is also worth going to the Hadlgrimskirkja Lutheran Church. It was built in the XX century in the Neo-Gothic style. The church got its name after the famous Icelandic poet Hadlgrimur Pietursson.

Iceland has its own Golden Ring. This is a tourist route starting in Reykjavik, passing through central Iceland and returning back to Reykjavik. The most interesting objects on this route are the Tingvedlir National Park, the Valley of geysers and Guldfoss Waterfall. This tour will take all day, but you won't regret it!

A visit to the Reykjavik Museum of Art will be very entertaining. There is a huge collection of works by the Icelandic artist Jouhanes Sveinson. He is so beloved by Icelanders that his portrait is depicted on the Icelandic crown. There is also a second building in the museum. It houses a sculpture museum. Works of modern art are located in the third building of the museum.

Being in Reykjavik, it is worth visiting the Cathedral of Christ the King, or as the Icelanders call it Landakotkirkja. It is a cathedral. It is made in the Neo-Gothic style.

Shipping has always been developed in Iceland, which is quite due to the geographical location of the country. Iceland's shipping history is reflected in the exposition of the Vikin Maritime Museum. Here you can see both merchant ships and fishing schooners. The museum also presents fishing gear, diving suits and sailors' clothing.

You can have a nice time on Lake Tiernin. Although it is located in the heart of the city, there are many species of birds: gaga, gray duck, polar tern and others. Feeding birds is an entertainment for many residents of the city and tourists. In winter, when the lake freezes, there is a huge skating rink, which is popular among the townspeople. The Parliament of Iceland and the university are located next to the lake. sensuelas.com
